Birthing Assistant (Doula)
Research has shown that Mothers and babies do better when women connect and support them to give birth. BA NIA’s Birthing Assistant (Doula) supports the mother throughout the duration of her pregnancy to promote a safe and healthy delivery. This is done by providing an array of support and non-judgmental guidance, referrals, and resources. The Birthing Assistant attends prenatal appointments, creates birthing plans, and empowers mother to advocate for herself through education. BA NIA’s Birthing Assistants are trained, qualified, and certified to provide support during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. During labor her role is instrumental in helping the mother to move easily from one stage of labor to another. Having a Birthing Assistant shortens labors, which leads to needing fewer medical interventions. The Birthing Assistant is the liaison between the laboring mother, family, medical and nursing staff. This harmony creates an environment where the mothers labor can progress comfortably, naturally, and confidently.
